Please fee free to utilise this handy on-line Golf Guide to better aid yourself with the excellent golfing opportunities that exist in the Lowcountry. The game of golf has been a South Carolina Lowcountry tradition since immigrants came to the city of Charleston and organized America's first golf club in way back in 1786. Since then with the development of Hilton Head Island and the surrounding area, the tradition of golf has expanded to include some of the finest courses found anywhere in America. On Hilton Head the first golf course opened in Sea Pines in 1961, and other new courses in Port Royal Plantation and Palmetto Dunes followed shortly thereafter. Today there exist an abundance of championship golf courses located on Hilton Head Island and the Bluffton SC area, with an equal number open for play on nearby communities such as Beaufot, Callawassie and other coastal areas. Indeed Hilton Head-area golf courses have earned an undeniable reputation for a world-class quality golf enviroment.
